UT Parking and Transportation Services is responsible for the management of over 17,000 parking spaces on campus, including 12 parking garages and more than 50 surface parking lots. Our operations include the distribution and regulation of daily, permitted, and event parking, as well as the maintenance of parking lots and garages. We also provide assistance to those parked on or traveling through campus. This assistance includes jump-starts and opening vehicles for those locked out.

Purpose

Assist supervisor with planning, inspecting, and assigning work to be performed by maintenance staff from UT PTS maintenance section. Maintains a high level of quality assurance and customer satisfaction. Promote safety in the workplace. Inspect jobs and oversee projects in variety of custodial and trade areas.

Responsibilities
  • Overall performance standard: all activities to be conducted in a professional, courteous, pleasant manner. Assist supervisor with daily shop operations, including paperwork, purchasing, inventory control, and safety training. Safely operate all departmental equipment. Keep accurate records for billing purposes. Perform general office duties, answer phones, log complaints, take scheduled construction project information, record keeping, filing, scheduling. Assist with other duties by supervisor and/or manager.
  • Check garages for cleanliness on a weekly basis. Be familiar with all PTS and UTPD policies and apply them in field. Act independently and make decisions when supervisor unavailable. In depth knowledge of campus critical to assignment work areas. Must organize a great deal of information and report it accurately either verbally or in writing.
  • Assist all outside special events. Placement and removal of signs, barricades and cables. Customer service and willingness to help others in all situations is a priority. Responsive to needs of the UT community. Communicate effectively with both verbal and written skills. Special projects as assigned. Complete all tasks as assigned and in a timely, efficient manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

6 AM - 2:30 SHIFT. REQUIRED TO WORK WEEKENDS, HOLIDAYS, OVERTIME AND COMP TIME AS NEEDED. MUST LIST ALL CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES ON RESUME. CANDIDATE SELECTED MUST HAVE ACTIVE CELL PHONE AND COVERAGE WITH LOCAL NUMBER WITHIN 5 BUSINESS DAYS OF HIRE.

High School Graduation or GED. One (1) or more years of supervisory experience in a university setting, including parking garage and surface lot maintenance. Journey level training in any of the following crafts: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and welding. Must be able to lift 60 pounds continuously over 8-hour period.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of related technical courses. Extensive knowledge of parking deck maintenance, surface lot (asphalt) maintenance and a teaching knowledge of related equipment. More than one (1) year supervisory experience in a university setting related to this field. More than five (5) years of journey level training in multiple crafts such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical HVAC and welding.

Driver Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
