Job Summary:

The Public Relations Seasonal Assistant is a seasonal position responsible for providing a wide range of support to the Detroit Red Wings Public Relations department during the 2024-25 season (September - Playoffs) in all areas including, but not limited to, game day PR responsibilities, comprising game notes and supporting community events and initiatives. The position requires an average of 30 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle game day media relations responsibilities, including press box setup, distributing media credentials and the copying and distribution of game notes, statistics and press clips.
  • Assist with Detroit Red Wings practice day media availabilities and off-ice events.
  • Draft press releases and media advisories for the Red Wings organization.
  • Create publicity plans and assist with game day operations for other sporting events held at Little Caesars Arena.
  • Provide support to the Public Relations and Community Impact staffs with events, including but not limited to generating and pitching story ideas and serving as on-site liaison for Red Wings players and media.
  • Assist with coverage of community impact events and non-hockey operations communication, including but not limited to press releases, media advisories and articles covering events for DetroitRedWings.com
  • Edit and contribute to annual Detroit Red Wings Media Guide.
  • Perform all other projects as assigned.

Supplemental Job Functions:
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Collegiate senior or recent graduate.
  • Experience writing game notes and press releases.
  • Evidence of solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Adobe InDesign.
  • Ability to produce material under strict deadlines with a high attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of hockey and the Detroit Red Wings organization.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience working in the sports and entertainment industry, particularly in hockey.
  • Pursuit or completion of a degree in the fields of Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or Sports Management is preferred.
  • Experience in public/media relations or community relations.


Working Conditions:
  • Irregular and extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Exposure to moderate - high noise level.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Frequent visual/auditory attention.
