Medical Assistants perform administrative and clinical duties under the direct supervision of a medical provider - physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner - in the medical office setting.
The Medical Assistant works closely with the physician in the practice/center clinical setting, assists with direct patient care, and serves as the clinical liaison between physician and patient and between physician and the office staff. The incumbent is responsible for promoting communication among all care providers, patients, and office staff regarding the care plan for the patient as defined by the attending physician. This individual attends to patients utilizing the age appropriate principles of growth and development for patients of all ages according to the practice specialty.

Administrative Functions:
•Taking patients to rooms
•Greeting patients
•Obtaining vital signs
•Scheduling appointments
•Assisting with medical procedures
•Answering phones
•Performing phlebotomy
•Clerical & computer work
•Obtaining lab specimens
•Prior authorizations
•Adhering to safety and infection guidelines
•Billing and coding
•Maintaining electronic medical records (EMR)
•Faxing
•Calculating & administering medications & vaccinations
•Disability & Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) paperwork

This position requires travel between several Heart Specialists locations within Louisville and Southern Indiana.
Qualifications
Required:
- Graduate of a medical assistant program (or) One year as a Medical Assistant
Desired:
- One year as a Medical Assistant
- Certified Medical Assistant
