Summary

Responsible for the coordination of daily activities for Medical Assistants to ensure optimal clinical flow. Provides interpretation and instruction for policies, procedures and practices. Maintains work schedules, review timesheets for accuracy and assists with performance evaluations for Medical Assistants. Provides in service training, acts as a preceptor and coaches the performance of Medical Assistants. Participates with leadership team to ensure effective clinical operations. Promotes and facilitates positive communication with the entire healthcare team. Performs and assists with clinical procedures and duties.

Responsibilities*

Intake: Efficiently and effectively prepares and organizes clinic exam and procedure rooms with appropriate equipment and supplies. Obtains and records accurate//pertinent information that includes preparing medical information and reports for the appointment.

Direct patient care: Assists the provide during the patient during the patient visit that could include routine procedure, ear irrigation, foot exams, collection and/or process of specimens for either onsite testing or preparing for pick up. To continuously track the clinic patient flow and identify holdups and notify patients if the schedule runs behind. Prepares and ensures all appropriate paperwork.

Education and Training: Maintains current competencies and mandatory training. Attends mandatory clinic and hospital training programs. Actively participates in clinic and/pr staff meetings.

Administration: Provides assigned administrative duties that may include weekly/ monthly staff schedules, process improvements, change implementation, and evaluation preparation. Coaches and supports staff to promote improvement. Staffing plans are maintained to meet the needs of the providers and patients. may be involved in the ordering process and strive to meet budgetary expectations. Active participative in regulatory compliance activities.

Facilitation: Ability to coordinate use of exam/procedure room space. Able to support multiple providers and /or specialties. Provides assistance with complex procedures and/or specimen collection. takes initiative in identifying, acting and following through on problems and tasks.

Leadership: Serves as a positive role model and is an integral member of the clinical leadership team. Communication is effective and positive with the entire health care team/ Demonstrates proactive problem-solving skills and takes the initiative to identify, act and follow through on problems. Is able to consider the impacts of decisions/changes beyond the immediate work group.

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and 5+ years of experience.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Prior experience performing complex scheduling.
  • Familiarity with obtaining medical records or professional medical billing.
  • Responds positively to change, shows willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work
  • Promotes community building and diversity initiatives that help employees learn and respect each others differences
  • Individual must exhibit a professional and positive image when interacting with patients, faculty and staff.
  • Must also adhere to a high standard of personal and professional conduct; possess excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate ability to interact with a diverse population.
  • Candidate must be able to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team, handling multiple responsibilities in a fast paced environment.
  • Candidate must demonstrate problem solving skills, proficient computer and keyboarding skills, telephone etiquette along with having a history of excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.
  • Good attendance


Desired Qualifications*

  • Formal education in a health care field
  • Certification as a medical assistant
  • Experience working within a large, complex health care setting.
  • Experience with in an Ambulatory Care setting.
  • Familiarity with Michigan Medicine electronic medical record.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.


Work Schedule

40 hours per week, Monday - Friday including an evening shift and a rotating Saturday
