Job Duties

The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) is excited to offer a competitive opportunity to serve as a Medical Facilities Inspector in the Program Integrity Division.

Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Perform compliance reviews of Medicaid services to determine compliance with Federal and State regulations and policy.

Determine through medical record reviews that the criterion for reimbursement is met and services were rendered according to federal, state regulations and policy for all Medicaid programs.

Identify the existence of abusive billing practices.

To identify non-compliance, overpayments and potential fraud, abuse and waste and take necessary steps for reporting.

Process referrals and complaints received, to include processing referrals to be sent to the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) at the Office of the Attorney General (OAG).

Participate in policy/procedure development and provide training and/or technical assistance to providers and DMAS staff.

This position may require occasional travel (place in the objectives section) and/or lifting up to 34 pounds, which is greater than the general lifting requirements listed below for all DMAS employees.

The additional lifting occurs when staff are responsible for handling the equipment during on-site audits. A valid driver's license is required.

The position you are applying for is an Hourly/Wage position. Hourly (wage) employees may not work more than an average of 29 hours a week and cannot exceed 1500 hours during their employment year. This position does not include health insurance, retirement or leave.

Minimum Qualifications

Competitive candidates will meet these minimum qualifications:

Considerable knowledge of Medicaid programs; and fraud, waste and abuse prevention as it relates to Medicaid programs.

Considerable knowledge of principles and technical methods of medical auditing, utilization review/utilization management for all Medicaid programs.

Considerable experience with analyzing data and resolving problems; researching and identifying changes in program requirements and policies.

Experience in preparing comprehensive reports; analyzing computer generated reports and medical records to determine appropriateness of billing and medical necessity for and appropriateness of treatment.

Experience in analyzing audit findings using a spreadsheet software program; developing and conducting training.

Experienced in the use of personal computers.

Considerable experience with interpreting State and Federal regulations; organizing and prioritizing work assignments.

Experience in meeting deadlines.

Experience with internal/external stakeholders.
