Medical Lab Scientist II / LIS Coordinator / FT / Days

The Medical Laboratory Scientist II (LIS Coordinator) is responsible for overseeing processes related to the evaluation, design and testing, implementation, and support of the Laboratory Information System and designing and conducting educational programs related to it alongside the Director of Laboratory Services.

Maintains an awareness of advancements in the healthcare computer systems industry in general and (LIS) in particular, including computer upgrades, revisions, build, troubleshooting, data extraction, and acting as a liaison between the laboratory and Health Information Technology and implementing the means for LIS to meet the needs of the hospital.

Responsible for application system support for the Laboratory including instrument interfaces and other systems that are dependent upon the laboratory core information system.

Manages and triages all issues relating to Meditech and other systems, equipment, or programs that connect to it. These include but are not limited to maintaining the integrity of the database and dictionaries, keeping dictionaries, calculations, QA parameters, billing files, etc., current, and working in close collaboration with key stakeholders and subject matter experts in Information Systems to ensure data flows are thoroughly tested, reviewed and approved, and assisting with testing and validation of organization-wide interface or HIE initiatives.

Provides overall technical and managerial leadership in Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)

Works proactively to ensure all relevant functionalities available in the system are deployed and optimized for the user. Oversees the impact of information technology in all areas within laboratory service workflow processes. Identify, analyze, and recommend alternative methods to the departmental processes, utilizing knowledge to integrate and transfer new or existing technology into the workplace so key outcomes are met and departmental processes are maximized.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science
  • Minimum of two years experience in a hospital setting
  • CPR training required
  • Certification by one of the following accrediting agencies: MLS (ASCP) or categorical, MT (AMT), MLT (ASCP), or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of governmental and regulating policies/standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to detect color and color changes.
  • Expert Knowledge of LIS system required.
  • Previous build experience with LIS preferred.
