The Division of Microbiology, Tulane National Primate Research Center has an exciting opportunity for a Medical Research Technician. Under the direction and supervision of the Principal Investigator and the Laboratory Supervisor, this individual will work in active research projects to study viral pathogenies and cure research. Primarily, the technician will perform standard molecular biology, immunology, and tissue culture techniques such as ELISA, PCR, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemistry. The candidate will also assist ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, and general laboratory maintenance. The ability to work within a team, flexibility and responsibility are essential for this position. Necessary training on laboratory and biosafety procedures will be provided.• Ability to perform laboratory work and in strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures
• Familiarity with basic microbiology work or a related discipline

SPECIAL REQUIRED ABILITY FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:
Ability to complete and pass successfully the required occupational health screening referenced in the University's Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECK, PHYSICAL, AND DRUG SCREENING FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:
Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment. For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation, required occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.• Bachelor's degree (BS)
• 0-2 years Laboratory experience required• A Bachelor's degree (BS) in any one of the following streams of sciences: microbiology, immunology, cell-biology, genetics, molecular biology, infectious disease, biological or general science.
• Work experience with standard immunology and molecular biology assays
• Knowledge of safe working principles, both for animal and laboratory space.
• Familiarity with basic computational tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.
• Experience with laboratory techniques, such as molecular biology, cell biology, and sterile technique
