Non-Competitive Promotional Opportunity (Section 52.7 of Civil Service Law)
In accordance with Section 52.7 of Civil Service Law, this notice advises all employees of the Office of Mental Health of our intention to conduct a non-competitive promotion examination for the position of Medical Technologist 2 at the Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research. Permanent appointment may be made by non-competitive promotion of an applicant who meets the position's minimum qualifications if all requirements of non-competitive promotion are met.

The promotion field for the Medical Technologist 2 positions consists of candidates who have one year of permanent service as a Medical Technologist 1, possess a license and current registration to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in New York State, and meet one of the qualifications of Title 10, Section 58 of New York State Public Health Law for Laboratory Supervisor.

Duties Description As a Medical Technologist 2, you would perform specialized chemical, physical, and microscopic clinical laboratory procedures and tests on human tissue specimens and body fluids in accordance with approved standards and operating procedures; supervise the activities of Medical Technologists 1, Medical Laboratory Technicians, and/or other clinical laboratory staff; provide technical guidance and training on laboratory techniques, methodologies, and the use and proper function of equipment; review laboratory procedures, tests, and corresponding documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements; maintain inventory control systems; and coordinate clinical laboratory procedures and tests with other laboratory specialty program areas.
