JOB SUMMARY :
Provides testing on patient samples, providing physicians with quality results using a variety of clinical laboratory equipment. Has total understanding of patient safety and laboratory techniques necessary to guarantee complete patient safety and anonymity.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITES:
Maintains and operates Clinical Lab equipment according to manufacturer and laboratory policy. Interprets results and provides appropriate feedback when results are abnormal or per special request.
Accurately identifies patient samples and accessions them into Laboratory Information System using right account numbers and test alpha codes.
Uses and disposes of hazardous and biohazardous materials as stated in laboratory policies and State and Federal Guidelines.
Runs controls and understands the importance of controls to verify the quality of testing before releasing results.
Provides phlebotomy services to patients during day as needed.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Familiarity with laboratory information systems, including but not limited to, order entry, inquiry and specimen tracking.
Excellent communication skills including telephone, written correspondence and speaking.
Knowledge of OSHA and those regulations relating to the use of hazardous chemicals in the histology laboratory.
Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Education: ASCP Medical Laboratory Technician or AMT Medical Laboratory Technician required within 12 months of hire.
Experience: 5 years of experience in a hospital lab preferred.
