Job Duties

The Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation (VCBR) is a behavioral treatment center recognized for its excellence by securely housing and treating civilly committed sex offenders. Through timely, consistent, and fair and equitable program application, VCBR promotes self-recovery and self-determination of committed population. All contact between staff and residents are deemed therapeutic

Purpose of Position: Provides quality nursing care to SVP adult residents within scope of certification. Will administer medication; support and assist the nurses to promote safety and delivery of quality care for residents. Gives direct care and general supervision to residents; identifies and responds to patients' immediate personal needs, and communicates and interacts with residents throughout all shifts daily, to ensure continuity of care and safety. Assists professional staff in providing therapeutic activities in a psychosocial treatment environment. To adhere and support residents' recovery by following their individualized treatment.

KSA's and or Competencies required to successfully perform the work:

- Knowledge of basic medical terminology, record keeping and general principles and practices
of nursing.
- Knowledge of medical devises to obtain complete vital signs.
- Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and maintain professional boundaries while interacting with residents.
- Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
- Strong organization and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent listening and verbal communication skills.
- Prepare, administer and document medication n accordance with regulations set forth from the Virginia Department of Health Professions and supervision of a Licensed Nurse.
- Efficiently reports incidents and changes in residents' condition to supervising nurse; charts care provisions.
- Complies with and promotes all rules regarding residents' rights.
- Knowledge of psychiatric disorders and developmental processes.
- Ability to work shifts; working overtime hours or shifts as required to provide care.
- Ability to work with people(teamwork); ability to work in a stressful environment; ability to understand and follow written policies and procedures.
- May be exposed to aggressive residents.
- Walking and/or standing for up to 8 hours or more; bending and lifting.
- Has a full understanding of infection control as it relates to the facility and the career chosen.

Minimum Qualifications

- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- Completion of a recognized Medication Aide program or able to obtain within 45 days of hire.

Additional Considerations

- Current and unrestricted Registered Medication Aide Certificate with the Virginia Board of Nursing preferred.
- Current and unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate with the Virginia Board of Nursing preferred.
- Experience in a health care facility, acute care or long-term care, preferred.
