Job Summary
The MEG Research Technician will independently set-up, run, and clean-up after researching MEG scans (after training and approval from the technical director). This role will also assist the study coordinator with scheduling research participants and pre-processing MEG data for selecting research studies.
Laboratory Expectations
• Performs research MEG scan acquisition.
• Communicates with subjects clearly and in a professional manner.
• Ensures proper subject preparation, verifies screening protocols, and answers questions.
• Ensures documentation of time and equipment used for each scan for billing.
• Checks equipment and accessories to ensure proper working order prior to exams, performs troubleshooting if not operating, and notifies appropriate personnel for repairs.
• Assist subject in dressing for exam and attends to subjects' physical well-being while transporting to and from exam room and table, and positioning for exam.
• Performs supply inventory and communicates supply changes/needs to MEG techs.
• May assist with clean-up after clinical scans.
• Trains new MEG personnel, trainees, and collaborators on MEG acquisition.
• Assist with development of new MEG study protocols.
• Assists with scheduling and coordinating research visits as appropriate to ensure smooth workflow.
• Assists with survey and behavioral data collection related to MEG studies.
• Performs initial database organization and pre-processing of MEG data for select studies.
Experience and Education
• Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required. or
• Two (2) years college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent. or
• High school graduation or GED and four (4) years laboratory experience to include two (2) years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
Job Duties
• Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
• Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
• Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
• Assists in collection of data for project reports.
• Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
• May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
