SUMMARY: Provide clearly identified and easily accessible therapeutic services that address the mental and emotional well-being of students (clients) and families representing multiple schools within the district.

  • School-based Licensed Mental Health Clinicians provide services at campus.
  • Clinic-based Licensed Mental Health Clinicians provide services at school-based clinics.


BASIC FUNCTIONS:

  • Utilize various assessment instruments and techniques, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to assist in diagnosing mental health conditions and determining appropriate intervention strategies
  • Identify and treat mental health/behavioral health conditions through the implementation of planning, clinical documentation and treatment plans and monitoring of progress/goals
  • Provide crisis intervention with students, families and campus staff by providing immediate assessment, triage and therapeutic assistance to minimize the impact of trauma to students
  • Conduct assessment for suicide, non-suicidal self-harm and harm to others. Collaborate with key parties to develop campus, student and home safety plans
  • Review client data regularly to ensure that treatment and documentation is aligned with professional standards and clinical best practice
  • Guard client confidentiality by being knowledgeable of and adhering to both FERPA and HIPAA regulations
  • Provide referrals for services such as medical care, educational intervention, psychiatric treatment, etc. when needed and case management services in order to increase referred client/family participation in services
  • Provide mental health consultation for school and district staff regarding Student Support Teams (SST) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). Provide ongoing feedback to referring parties, school personnel and clients
  • Assess mental health and social service needs to provide successful re-entry/transition to home campus for students returning from DAEP, behavioral health hospitals and residential treatment placements
  • Develop and deliver professional development and community outreach topics on mental health wellness, social emotional development, suicidality, threat assessments, behavior management, depression, anxiety and ADHD
  • Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, professional development and training to increase clinical skills and improve outcomes for critical cases
  • Complete, document, and submit all discipline-specific requirements for maintaining licensure through applicable State of Texas licensing boards.
  • Comply with departmental policies, legal requirements, and professional, ethical, and quality of care standards


Qualifications

  • Required Master's or doctoral degree and licensed by the State of Texas in mental health (LCSW, LMFT, LMSW, LPC, or LSSP)
  • Knowledge of and ability to use a wide array of evidence-based therapeutic approaches to improve students' academic performance and psychosocial development
  • Ability to work cooperatively, collaboratively and effectively with client, families, staff and the community
  • Ability to provide own transportation
  • May require ability and willingness to work non-traditional hours in order to accommodate parents' work and students' school schedules
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment requiring ability to manage competing priorities including referrals, crisis response and client treatment. Minimum of two years of school-based experience preferred
  • Demonstrated fluency in both English and Spanish preferred
