A mental health counselor is a professional who provides emotional and psychological support to individuals, couples, families, and groups. They help clients manage their emotions, relationships, and behaviors to overcome challenges, improve mental health, and achieve their personal goals.
Key responsibilities of a mental health counselor include:
Conducting assessments and diagnostic evaluations to understand clients' mental health needs
Developing individualized treatment plans and setting therapy goals with clients
Providing one-on-one and group therapy sessions, using techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, talk therapy, and other evidence-based practices
Collaborating with other mental health professionals, such as psychiatrists, to provide comprehensive care to clients
Maintaining accurate and confidential client records and documentation
Staying current with advances in mental health research and incorporating new approaches into treatment plans
Providing support, education, and resources to clients and their families
Making referrals to community resources, such as support groups or medical services, as needed
The ideal candidate for this role will have a Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or a related field and a state-issued license to practice as a mental health counselor. They should possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, as well as a strong commitment to helping others. Experience working with diverse populations and a flexible, empathetic approach to therapy are also important qualities for success in this role.
This is a not full time but contracted travel position.
