Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Mental Health Safety Coordinator, you will participates in high-quality, patient-centered care by providing continuous observation and monitoring for high risk patients. You will also provide administrative services to behavioral health patients on a designated unit in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Research Psychiatric Center. You will participate in the multidisciplinary treatment team plan of care. You will work collaboratively with members of the health care team to maintain a safe environment and provides patient and family education. You will provide milieu management and oversight of potentially violent patients.

What you will do in this role:

  • Establishes a safe, risk-free patient environment by utilizing knowledge of self-harm prevention and de-escalation strategies. Performs room assessments regularly and after any visitations.
  • Monitors patient physical and emotional condition. Reports any status changes promptly and works with the nursing team to deliver prompt care plan objectives.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and respect of patient rights to privacy and protection of patient confidentiality.
  • Promotes consistent, positive patient interactions that include updates on patient status and expectations.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills, including active listening. Ensures patients, physicians, and colleagues clearly understand all communications.
  • Performs regular patient care assessments such as vitals monitoring.
  • Obtains laboratory testing samples, including urine and blood draws.
  • Assists in maintaining patient and staff safety by working within a collaborative team to restrict violent behavior, including assisting in using physical and chemical restraints.
  • Performs unit administrative functions, including stocking equipment/consumables and basic room cleaning duties.
  • Participates in the hospital or departmental performance improvement activities and seeks opportunities to improve department and inter-department processes.


What Qualifications You Will Need:

  • High School Graduate or GED required, Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Prefer one year of psychiatric experience
  • Medical Terminology and clerical background preferred
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of the employment start date
  • This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state, and federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved)
