Michigan Colalition Against Homelessness Communities First

Communities First is seeking one Full-time AmeriCorps Member to serve as a Housing Specialists from September 30th, 2024 through September 26th, 2025. The mission of Communities First, Inc. is to build healthy, vibrant communities through economic development, affordable housing and innovative programming. The motto of Communities First, Inc. is "Empowering People. Building Communities". As we continue to develop projects and programs we will always keep the community involved and engaged. As our organization grows we will also grow with the needs of the community in mind. We endeavor to keep the community first in all of our work, addressing the needs and desires of those that we serve. MCAH's AmeriCorps members join a corps of 23 members serving with housing and homeless service providers across the state in an effort to provide direct, supportive services to individuals experiencing or at-risk of homelessness. Members will receive training from the program through orientation, mid-year, and end-year training as well as on-going webinars/trainings focused on professional development and networking. Sites will provide position-specific training, including training and licensing in the Michigan Statewide Homeless Management Information System. Service benefits include a $21,000 living stipend (pre-tax, distributed bi-weekly) and a $7,395 Segal Education Award. Member Duties : Assist with intakes to assess the housing needs of that client Address housing barriers for the client Create/update lists of available housing for the clients to choose from Connect clients with necessary funds to pay for security deposits, rental fees, or utility payments Maintain/develop relationships with local landlords and CFI's Property Management Team Receive training for/conduct Housing Quality Standards (HQS) and other housing inspections Assist with independent living skills support related to addressing income and housing stabilization needs Gather and disperse food and clothing donations to clients Facilitate delivery of needed household items to clients who receive housing Generate information materials for clients, such as newsletters/pamphlets/etc. Provide follow-up support services as needed
