Pay Range

SES.1: $110,700 - $142,128 Annually

SES.2: $132,810 - $170,556 Annually

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Job Description

We havean opening for aMicrobiologist/Molecular Biologist to join ongoing projectsdevelopinginnovative therapeutics andvaccinesagainst infectious diseases.Candidates should have an interest in learning new skills and techniques and be able to implement them independently, as part of a multidisciplinary team. This position is in the Microbiology/Immunology group of the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division.

This position will be filled at either the SES.1 or SES.2 level, depending on your qualifications. Additional job duties will be assigned at the higher level.

In this role you will:
  • Maintain mammalian cell lines and cell culture equipment for assay developments
  • Express and purify proteinto generate reagents for functional and immunological studies
  • Perform standard molecular biology techniques (e.g.,DNA preparation, DNA/protein quantification, SDS PAGE)
  • Assist in the development and optimization immunoassays and affinity assessment:BLI, ELISA, and fluorescence-based immunoassays, (e.g, MSD,Gyrolab,AlphaLISA)
  • Evaluate large data sets to troubleshoot assays as needed
  • Contribute to maintenanceof a BSL2 biology lab including ordering,equipmentmaintenance, inventory control and ES&H safety guidelines implementation
  • Maintain an accurate and detailed laboratory notebook and communicate results with relevant team members
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional duties at the SES.2 level:
  • Develop and optimize immunoassays and affinity assessment:SPR, BLI, ELISA, and fluorescence-based (e.g, MSD,Gyrolab,AlphaLISA)
  • Provide solutions to problems of limited complexity that require creative use of established and/or innovative methods
  • Analyze current process procedures and provide moderately complex feedback for the optimization and improvement of workflow.
  • Provide occasional training on laboratory procedures to other employees.

Qualifications
  • BS degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Fundamental knowledge of sterile techniques, culturing and maintenance of microbiological and tissue cultures, and media preparation
  • Fundamental knowledge of molecular biology techniques (e.g.,ELISA, microscopy, protein purification, SDS PAGE, BLI)
  • Proficient with common Microsoft Office applications andother scientific software
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly, apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment, and gain proficiency to work independently to meet established guidelines
  • Workseffectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment both independently and as a team with a diverse set of scientists, and other technical and administrative staff
  • Effective problem-solving skills to implement solutions of limited complexity.
  • Sufficient verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively in a team environment and present and explain technical information.

Additional qualifications at the SES.2 level:
  • MS degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related filed, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Substantial experience in molecular biology techniques (e.g.,ELISA, microscopy, protein purification, SDS PAGE, BLI)
  • Substantial experience in culture and maintenance of microbiological and tissue cultures

Qualifications we desire
  • Working knowledge of protein purification and characterization techniques and experience with sample preparation and processing
  • Academic and/or industry laboratory research experience
  • Knowledge of applied biostatistics and proficient with statistical software (e.g., GraphPad Prism or R) and experience in fluorescence microscopy, automation, or other high-throughput instrumentation
