Description:

Provides recreational and prevention programming to promote drug and alcohol-free activities for after school, evenings, and weekends. Provides early intervention services and promotes SFIS health and wellness programming

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent required. Must be willing to advance college education in courses identified by SFIS, and paid for by SFIS.

Preferred Qualifications:

College credits of at least 32 hours and experience working with adolescents and experience working with Native American students and Native American or Tribal entities, preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates afterschool, drug-free positive activities which includes working with all caseloads in the dorm.
  • Collaborates and aligns activities with SFIS health and wellness and the 21st Century Program.
  • Explores off-campus resources for SFIS students.
  • Promotes students' interests and exposure to community opportunities.
  • Assists with intramural activities.
  • Researches and implements a mentorship program, such as dorm leadership.
  • Sponsors/facilitates cultural and traditional activities, events, and clubs.
  • Assists counselors with drug and alcohol prevention sessions and campaigns.
  • Completes monthly narrative reports.
  • Provides monthly calendar of activities.
  • Coordinates with program director SFIS health and wellness classes for students.
  • Supports caseload coverage.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, applicable laws, regulations, and emerging practices pertaining to assigned responsibilities, including current issues and trends in education.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, working with Pueblos, Tribes, and Tribally controlled organizations.

  • Exemplary skills in written and oral language with the ability to communicate respectfully, clearly, and concisely in person, by telephone, and though written forms (i.e., paper, email, text, social media).

  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques with the ability to remain calm during emergencies and other stressors.
  • Knowledgeable of privacy requirements and ability to keep organized, confidential records.

Work Environment, Safety, and Equipment

Work is performed both inside and outside and in inclement weather. Frequent use of communication equipment and computers. Evening, holiday, and weekend work is required. Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. May require traveling to various communities to meet with students, parents, guardians, Tribal social services, and other service providers.

Safety and Health Requirements:
  • Proper posture is required to eliminate acute and chronic low back pain.
  • Complete all required safety and health training.
  • Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions and knowledge of safe school precautions.
  • The employee must adhere to SFIS safety protocols and crisis plans.

Equipment/Material Handled:

Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, all multi-media equipment, software, and current technology.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position; sitting, standing, lifting, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required. Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Have manual and finger dexterity. Occasionally required to reach above shoulder level, repetitive hand, and arm motions; must be able to see, read, and record small numbers.
