Your Opportunity

Experienced National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) planner and environmental planner with ability to write NEPA documents and support projects through the federal environmental permitting processes from constraints analysis/scoping through regulatory consultations to environmental certification (FONSI or ROD).

Full-time position reporting to Stantec's Hampton, VA office. Position is eligible for remote hybrid work arrangement.

Your Key Responsibilities

Prepare and review environmental impact documents and associated supporting documents in accordance with NEPA such as Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, and technical studies such as noise studies, biological resources surveys and assessments, cultural resources surveys and reports, geotechnical surveys and reports, air quality reports, wetland delineations, etc.

  • Good organizational skills, multi-tasking capabilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet firm deadlines.
  • Ability to acquire background clearance sufficient to gain entry to military installations and/or controlled access facilities.
  • Ability to lead high profile client interactions and identify business development opportunities.
  • Ability to lead large-scale, high visibility NEPA projects for federal government.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record
  • Position requires a pre-employment Drug screen
  • Additional Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with environmental analysis and permitting for military projects (Navy, Marine Corps, Air National Guard, Coast Guard, Air Force, etc.) or projects for other federal government entities on Federally- owned lands.
  • Support preparation of environmental permit applications with various federal and state agencies for a variety of project types/sizes.
  • Manage the project or task team (office- and field-based) and their assignments, deliverables, files and administrative record, safety program, subconsultants and their contracting process, and client and their expectations; and monitor and review project contracts, deliverables, schedule, and budget.

Additional Preferred Skills
  • Experience with environmental analysis and permitting.
  • Experience with business development, marketing, proposal writing, etc.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Geology, Chemistry, Community/Urban/Environmental Planning or a closely related field, required.
  • Master's Degree in any of the fields described above is preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years (mid-level) or 10 years (senior level) of related work experience, with demonstrated task lead experience.
  • Ability to acquire background and security clearance sufficient to gain entry to military installations and/or controlled access facilities and data.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification or interest in pursuing is preferred
