Job Description

SCOPE OF POSITION
Performs a variety of duties in preparing patients for MRI imaging studies on patients from neonates to geriatrics. Operates MRI scanner and computer to produce images of specific areas to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Studies physician prescribes requisitions to determine body area to be scanned and the sequence to be used. Gives patient instruction of producer method. Injects IV contrast for organ enhancement, under the direction of Radiologist.
In addition to the job responsibilities of a MRI Technologist, the MRI Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that procedures are in effect, enforced, and updated to insure safety in the MR environment. Establish and routinely reviews MR safety policies and procedures, and assess the level of compliance by all staff members. Will assist with the coordination of MR safety education. Stay up to date with current MR safety alerts and passes information on to staff. Responsible for all restrictions, provided by suppliers, being adhered to in regard to the use of MR-safe and/or MR-compatible equipment and services in the MR environment. Maintains a list of MR-safe and MR-compatible equipment, including restriction for use and have this list available for view in the MR department. Ensures that all people entering the MR environment are screened by MR staff for magnetic objects in their bodies (such as implants, bullets, and shrapnel) and on their bodies ( such as hair pins, zippers and jewelry).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate of Science degree in Radiology Technology and/or a graduate of Radiologic Technology Program recognized by The American College of Radiology. Must be registered by ARRT. Advanced certification in MRI preferred. Must possess extensive knowledge of MRI safety requirements. Candidate must have a minimum of one year experience in MRI scan applications. If not registered in MRI, the technologist must schedule the MRI registry to be taken within 12 months of hire.
