Job Description Summary
The Storm Eye Institute -
Storm Eye treats adult and pediatric patients across the tri-county area. It includes specialties such as general ophthalmology, glaucoma, retina, cornea, oculoplastic, and optometry.
Responsible for the management of clinical staff in a medical office setting. Must be able to work independently to provide direct supervision of the clinical staff.Coordinate and participate in day to day clinical operations to include: Perform advanced medical history, checks patient's visual acuity, dilates patient's eyes. Performs basic slit-lamp exam, visual fields, color vision tests, lensometry, tonometry, keratometry, and refractometry. Assists with office surgical procedures. Maintains complete and accurate information in the patient's medical record. Prepares and maintains exam rooms to ensure they are adequately stocked with supplies and that all equipment and instruments are in proper working order. Prepare instruments for sterilization. Screen patients, and telephone triage. Follow policies and procedures to ensure patient care and utilization of clinic resources. Maintain OSHA and DHEC clinic requirements. Supervise clinic staff; direct and coordinate human resources to include hiring, training, staffing, performance management, disciplinary issues. Coordinate staff development, ensure certificate/licensure requirements and conduct regular staff meetings. Ensure to maintain monthly budgets set forth by the department.

Physical Requirements:Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.

Screen patient phone calls and questions. Follow Guest Relation Policy: Be polite, attentive and courteous to all patients at all times. Perform other related duties incidental to the work.- COT/ COA:
Required Minimum Training and Education:High school diploma or equivalent and two years of specialized ophthalmic experience. Completion of either a two year Certified Ophthalmic Technician, Certified Ophthalmic Assistant program or equivalent.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: JCAHPO certification as a COT or COA required. Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain a Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Compliance in maintaining BLS and any other annual competencies is mandatory.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Certification of COA, Certified Ophthalmic Assistant is required within 6-12 months of hire date. Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain a Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
