Job Purpose
The role of the Scribe is to accompany the physician or licensed provider into the exam room, documenting in the EMR all aspects of patient care to include, chief compliant, history of presenting illness, physical exam and patient plan as directed by the provider.
Education and Work Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in a healthcare environment. Excellent computer and typing skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of an electronic medical record application. Adept knowledge of medical terminology. High attention to detail.
Job Duties
35% - Accompanies the Licensed Provider into the exam room, documenting in the EMR all aspects of care to include, chief compliant, history of presenting illness, physical exam and patient plan as directed by the provider. Records the words and activities of the provider-patient portion of the encounter in real-time in the EMR.
30% - Pre-charts patient encounters to ensures efficiency of visit flow and accuracy of information.
20% - Initiates patient orders and referrals in the EMR under the direction of the provider and submits to provider for authorization. Searches for relevant information in the medical record.
15% - Develops an understanding of the providers practice patterns and key terms used by the provider to ensure efficient and accurate real time documentation of the patient visit.
Physical Requirements
Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 25 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 25 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces. Ability/willingness to travel frequently to MUSCP-PC clinical locations away from the main campus.
