The Global Music Business Development team drives negotiations and fosters relationships with record labels and music publishers. We are tasked with creating and implementing the TikTok music strategy. The team helps drive growth and awareness of TikTok and the music and artists that thrive therein. The Director, Music Publishing Licensing (North America) will facilitate the development and licensing of new music-related products and features across TikTok's suite of AI-powered mobile apps including TikTok, CapCut, and more.

Responsibilities:
- Lead North American music publishing business development and licensing
- Negotiate music content licenses with music publishers and PROs/CMOs across the region, and beyond as needed
- Develop & maintain high-quality working relationships with music publishing rightsholders and work closely with Publishing Partnerships Management team
- Align cross-functional strategies across Global Music Business Development, Product, Legal and other teams to enable and support new music-related product development
- Represent Music Publishing Licensing and Partnerships BD team in internal and external discussions related to product development and licensing roadmap
- Understand product goals and anticipate music licensing and copyright-related

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in music or related digital content industry, with an emphasis on music publishing licensing for digital services, including experience in copyright, licensing, business development and product development
- Demonstrable experience creating and negotiating licensing structures, preferably for music streaming services and/or user generated content platforms
- Sophisticated understanding of and experience with international music publishing licensing and rights structures
- Established relationships with key stakeholders across the region - Familiarity with complex IP considerations around UGC
- Proactive team player and effective influencer

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree plus MBA or equivalent business qualification strongly preferred, or relevant industry experience
- Strong Excel, PowerPoint and presentation design skills including analytics and financial modeling skills a plus
