HDR is looking for an experienced and driven Natural Resources expert to lead and develop our Environmental Sciences & Planning (ES&P) practice for the Resources Business Group (RBG) of the KY, TN, AR Area. This position must be located in our Area and will require regular and consistent time in each of our area offices as the environmental team grows. This position will report directly to the KY/TN/AR RBG Manager.

In the KY, TN, AR Area, the ES&P program within the Resources Business Group has continued to grow by executing work across various markets sectors.

This individual must have a proven background in managing programs and developing staff with a focus on managing the regulatory approval and permitting process for private and public infrastructure projects. Business development experience and client relationships with federal and state regulatory agencies is highly desirable. The applicant should have direct experience managing environmental projects for both private as well as federal, state and locally sponsored projects.

This role involves operations and marketing responsibilities such as the following: managing the ES&P Team; collaboration and coordination with Area Transportation Business Group (TBG) and Water Business Group (WBG) leads; identifying recruitment needs; working with HDR's Resources Business Group leadership and Regional ES&P program leadership; identifying market needs and client-focused solutions, as well as networking and establishing client relationships and supporting major proposal efforts.

On a regular basis, we'll expect this individual to:

  • Develop and maintain organizational structure for the RBG ES&P team
  • Perform workload management, resource balancing, matching to projects and pursuits, and providing status updates to the RBG Manager and ES&P regional and national leads
  • Provide technical expertise in permitting, NEPA, and related environmental services in the Resources Business Group market and at project level
  • Lead the growth of HDR's environmental program through development of client relationships and identification of opportunities for expansion of our environmental services
  • Manage and deliver several projects concurrently, and be responsible for project management, including developing and managing budgets, schedules, and quality of product
  • Establish client relations and support marketing, contractual, design and production meetings


Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS or MS degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences, or related field required
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working with environmental programs, managing teams, NEPA and/or permitting including developing plans, writing proposals, developing scopes of work, budgets, and schedules for complex environmental projects with multi-disciplinary teams and multi-agency efforts required; this needs to include experience marketing clients
  • Proven track-record of success managing and mentoring staff
  • Must have proven client relationships
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite required
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, as well as an ability to work in a team environment

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering, planning or a related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of industry experience
  • If an engineer, maintain engineering registration
  • Experienced in development and management of strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services
  • Experienced in development and management of a wide range of client relationships and specific program and/or project pursuits
  • Experienced in overall staff development to include recruiting, career path and professional growth
  • Experienced with industry associations and maintains a visible profile in the market sector
  • Ability to work cooperatively with Regional Market Sector Directors, Market Sector Directors, Business Class Directors, Regional Business Group Directors, Area Business Group Managers, Area Marketing Managers and Area Managers
  • Demonstrated commitment to HDR values. An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
