Under the general direction of the Deputy Secretary for Climate change, The Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) is the advanced journey level of the series. The Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) independently identifies problems, develops courses of action, and conducts critical and/or sensitive scientific investigations and studies and may prepare guidance, policy, planning, or regulatory documents and legislative proposals on issues of importance to the employer, and do other related work.

The NBS Technical Manager will lead CNRA's efforts to advance California's ability to measure, report, and verify NBS climate action in coordination with/support of CNRA Departments and in close partnership with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA).

Department Information
The California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) is a state cabinet-level agency in the government of California. Through its 40 departments, conservancies, boards, commissions, councils, and museums, the California Natural Resources Agency is responsible for protecting historical, natural, and cultural sites, monitoring and controlling state lands and waterways, and regulating fish and game use.

The current Secretary for the California Natural Resources is Wade Crowfoot and he serves as a member of Governor Gavin Newsom's cabinet. As Secretary, Crowfoot oversees an agency of 19,000 employees charged with protecting and managing California's diverse resources.
