Position Summary

Configures, installs, and supports routing equipment for campus; Network fault management- Including routing, switching, and all other network related problems (this includes coordination of syslog problem resolution); Configures, installs, and supports switching equipment for campus; Configures, installs and maintains legacy PBX phone system equipment; Provides assistance to NOC and Telephone Services manager for special projects as needed; Responsible for internal NOC procedures.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Configures, installs, and supports routing and switching equipment for UGA campus
  • Know and understand all aspects of routing to support all aspects of the campus network.
  • Maintain, configure, and install routers including IOS upgrades.
  • Responsible for documentation showing which routers are under maintenance, the terms of the agreement, and explain the procedure for contacting the appropriate parties when maintenance is needed.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory for all routers including cable modem head ends. Maintain maintenance agreements for campus routers (NSP)
  • Assist Network Engineering with support for the routing infrastructure of the University network.
  • Works with Server Administration to implement/support technologies that are critical to network mission, including: DNS, DHCP, Authentication (Active Directory, RADIUS, E-Directory), and Monitoring applications.
  • Provides problem determination and resolution for the campus switching gear and able to update firmware and make hardware changes as needed. Quotes will be sent to vendors in a timely manner.
  • Accurate records of all equipment configurations and orders will be kept up to date in inventory records.

Duties/Responsibilities

Legacy Phone System Support
  • Responsible for assisting with the maintenance of the PBX system. This may include responding to system issues with Continuant (e.g., performance, software updates, system configuration and hardware checks.
  • Implements security measures to protect against unauthorized access and potential threats like toll fraud. This might involve setting up access controls and regularly updating security protocols.
  • Monitors the usage of the PBX system, PRIs, Trunk Groups.
  • Helps to maintain documentation of the PBX system's configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Assists with VOIP, Digital, and Analog support between traditional telephony and VoIP.
  • Ability to escalate complex issues to higher-level support or third-party vendors for resolution. Including communicating with PBX system vendors for support, maintenance, and procurement activities.

Microsoft Teams Voice Support
  • Administration of the Microsoft Teams Voice platform, including call routing configurations, and system settings.
  • Assist with the diagnosing of technical issues related to Microsoft Teams Voice, such as call quality problems, connectivity issues, and software glitches.
  • Collaborates with other IT teams to integrate Microsoft Teams Voice with other systems and applications, such as email and calendar services.
  • Monitors and optimizes the quality of voice calls, including implementing QoS policies to prioritize voice traffic on the network.
  • Participates in the management of relationships with Microsoft or third-party vendors for support, procurement, and licensing related to Microsoft Teams Voice.
