Experience and Education

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, with four (4) years of experience in an enterprise support role and relevant experience with software or appliances used in network systems.
  • May consider additional years of experience in lieu of a degree.
Job Duties
  • Works directly with Senior Engineer to plan, document and implement network communications systems.
  • Provides specifications and detailed documentation for the network architecture.
  • Conducts coordinated testing of network design.
  • Assists with responses to security incidents to prevent additional loss and obtains and preserves forensic evidence.
  • Able to work independently for major network upgrade initiative, able to evaluate and assess new technologies and network components.
  • Performs wired and wireless network installations, management, and monitoring as necessary.
  • Plans and maintains WAN connected clinics and sites.
  • Troubleshoots network components and recommends improvements.
  • Provides documentation, project tracking, and management reporting for new projects.
  • Remains knowledgeable of changes in technology, industry practices, and state and federal regulatory requirements by attending training, trade shows, and related venues.
  • Serves as escalation support to Network Engineer I for Call Center problems (Service-Now) assignments.
  • Participates in on-call rotation and scheduled change windows whose duties include nights and weekends
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Strongly prefer CCNA certification Works requires good verbal and written communications skills. Work requires skill in delivering timely, quality customer service. Work requires knowledge of authoritative standards, guidelines, and best practices relative to data network and security systems. Work requires ability to formulate and sustain effective and productive working relationships between diverse members of project teams and work with groups within Information Resources and other departments at the institution. Work requires knowledge of technical computer security issues and Windows, UNIX, and LINUX operating systems. Requires knowledge of routing protocols, campus and internet, wireless 802.1x, VOIP and HSNAC Work requires ability to configure routers and switches, as well as design and implement networking changes. Knowledge of cisco ACI and internet routing. Understands firewall systems, VPN systems and NAC authentication. Understands completely IPAM and DNS/DHCP Work requires ability to design and implement networking tools, which integrate with other computing systems. Work requires ability to exercise judgement and impact awareness working in sensitive compute facilities including computer center, internet POPs and critical health care locations. Has knowledge of WAN technologies, leased circuits and DWDM and optical transport systems. Work requires physical exertion working with and connecting network devices. Work requires exercise of independent judgment in application of procedures, techniques or practices to work problems. Work requires development of policies and procedures and recommendation of products for approval to meet department needs.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in general office area. May be required to visit switching locations, wiring closets, and other campus networking facilities.
