Texas Oncology is looking for a New Patient Coordinator to join our team!This position will support the Arlington location.

This position can be either a level 1 or Sr based on candidate experience.

What does the New Patient Coordinator do? (including but not limited to)

Under general supervision, the Pre-Services Coordinator is responsible for scheduling and pre-registering new patients for exams and procedures. Maintains patient records, prepares forms, verifies information and resolves routine and non-routine problems. Follows standard procedures and pre-established guidelines to complete tasks. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards, and US Oncology's Shared Values.

Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to)
  • Answers incoming calls and asks appropriate questions to assess patients' needs.
  • Schedules new patient appointments with appropriate provider.
  • Provides patients with appointment details such as time, location, directions, and instructions to patients. Records call statistics in New Patient Log. Maintains and updates physician schedules ensuring that patients are scheduled properly. Works in conjunction with the triage nurses to accommodate scheduling requests.
  • Obtains patient demographic, insurance and other pre-visit required information. Enters patient information into computer systems. Verifies patient's insurance eligibility and benefit coverage/co-pays with payer; verifies pre-authorizations are completed prior to patient visit.
  • Other duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the New Patient Coordinator position will have the following background and experience:

Level 1
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates degree in Finance, Business or four years revenue cycle experience preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years medical receptionist experience with insurance forms and scheduling software required.
  • Knowledge of this practices personnel, daily routines, and scheduling a plus.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and MicroSoft (Outlook, Office Word, and Excel) required.
  • Must successfully complete required e-learning courses within 90 days of occupying position.

Level Sr (in addition to Level 1 requirements)
  • Minimum two (2) years patient pre-services coordinator experience required.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be present at the employee site during regularly scheduled business hours and regularly required to sit or stand and talk or hear. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Work Environment:

The work environment may include exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment. Work will involve in-person interaction with co-workers and management and/or clients. Work may require minimal travel by automobile to office sites.
