The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for Non-CDL Transit Operators to provide responsible skilled duties in the transport of the general public; to perform preventative maintenance and minor repair to assigned vehicles; and to provide staff support to the Transit Department.
  • Drive and maintain a transit route and schedule; transport passengers along route or to scheduled appointments; assist passengers in loading and unloading as needed; operate specialized loading and unloading equipment to assist wheelchair passengers in a safe and timely manner.
  • Tactfully greet passengers; answer questions and provide information to the general public regarding transit schedules, rules, regulations, routes and other information; refer sensitive inquiries and complaints to appropriate staff.
  • Collect, count and record transit revenues for assigned route; provide route information to passengers; prepare appropriate reports and daily manifests.
  • Operate a two-way radio; report accidents and road hazards; provide staff support in accident investigations.
  • Prepare and inspect assigned vehicle for daily operations; check and maintain fluid levels; perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs as necessary; maintain and submit vehicle mileage records as requested.
  • Ensure safety regulations, rules and codes are enforced and obeyed by passengers in assigned vehicle; report persistent violators.
  • Maintain contact with dispatch and report on current position and conditions affecting the operation of the route as required.

Experience:

Six months of driving experience and an acceptable driving record in accordance with the City of Fayetteville Driving Standard.

Training:

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS:

Required:

A current DOT Medical Card within 30 days of employment; possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability.

Preferred:

First Aid certification; CPR certification.

From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment DOT drug screen, DOT Physical, background check and driving history check.
