Description:

The Remapping the Očhéti Šakówiŋ Oyáte project, funded by the Mellon Foundation, seeks a communication and research assistant. Primary responsibilities will include communicating and liaising with research fellows from sixteen different tribal nations and maintaining a database of recordings of oral storytellers.This position is 10 hours per week, from the beginning of October 2024 through the end of December 2024. This position is not benefit eligible.

Qualifications

  • Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related field; knowledge of Očhéti Šakówiŋ cultural protocols; knowledge of Dakota and/or Lakota language; experience in website design and maintenance; good communication and writing skills.
  • Preferred qualifications: Advanced degree in related field; knowledge of Critical Indigenous Studies theories and methods; prior relationships with Očhéti Šakówiŋ tribes; experience with tribal data sovereignty and intellectual property rights.
