Job Summary:
A nurse practitioner is employed by Erlanger Medical Center and is responsible for participating in the diagnosis, treatment and supportive care of patients and any others as defined by the Collaborative agreement the NP has with the collaborating physician. Care is provided in both inpatient and outpatient areas. The Nurse Practitioner collects documents and analyzes patient data, and when necessary collaborates in the development and implementation of testing and treatment protocols.

This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practices' patient population. Participates in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.

Education:
Required: Masters of Science degree in Nursing (MSN).

Required:
Minimum of 3 years experience in pediatric or other ambulatory care setting. Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills; knowledge of organizational functions, policies and regulations; knowledge of current trends and new developments; knowledge of principles and practices of nursing, applicable to those areas requiring special education.

Required:
Licensed as an Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Tennessee
Licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in the state of Tennessee
National certification in a specialty (such as ACNP, ANP, CCNS, FNP)
Certificate of fitness from the state of Tennessee (as required by specialty)
BLS completed prior to going to the unit/ department and maintained going forward

Preferred:

The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.

The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her clinic. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective o the patient's status. Interpretation of the appropriate information is needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the Nurse Practitioner's protocols.
