Position Summary

Perform nuclear medicine technologist duties in compliance with Radiology Department and legal requirements. Help patients feel comfortable during the entire process. Perform selected nursing, lab, administrative, and clerical duties that assist in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management under the direction of a Physician, PA, or NP. These duties are delegated in relation to the individual's degree of training, in accordance with the objectives and policies of the organization and respective state laws governing such action and activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

I. Daily Responsibilities
1. Scheduling Patients In Advance.
2. On arrival, check patient appointments.
3. Plan patient scanning schedule for the day.
4. Perform all injections of radioactive material.
Performance of Studies, Imaging Procedures
1. Any technical information needed to perform Nuclear Medicine Scans is located in the greenTechnical Information for Nuclear MedicineProcedures. Other functions for the Nuclear MedicineTechnologistare:
a) Assures correct identity of the patient. For inpatients, the Technologist will check the doctor's orders in the patient's charts noting the patient's name and verifying the written order. The Technologist will co-sign the order in the chart to indicate this step was performed. The Technologist will check the patient's wrist band for identification.
b) Explains procedures to the patients in order to obtain cooperation and allay anxieties during performance of the procedure. It is the responsibility of the Technologist to continually assess the immediate needs and conditions of assigned patients.
c) Visually inspects the patient in order to record any observations that may contribute additional information in the evaluation of test results; e.g., pregnancy, incontingency, surgery, interfering medications, etc.
d) Reviews and abstracts data from patients chart.
e) Places the patient on the examination table and explains, as necessary, positioning and instrumentation operating characteristics, time to complete testing, etc.
f) Performs standard Nuclear Medicine dynamic and static imaging procedures on patients which include assisting patients in assuming required anatomical body positions, positioning and adjusting the equipment to encompass the area to be studied. The technologist adjusts controls on uniformity and resolution to ensure that all equipment is in working order.

II. Quality Assurance Tests and Radiation Safety
1. Camera
a. Do daily floods uncorrected and corrected.
b. Preferably on Mondays, do a weekly bar phantom to check resolution of camera.
c. Do SPECT high count flood monthly for leap and High res. Collimator. Do SPECT center of rotation monthly for low energy parallel hole and high resolution collimator.
d. Isotope peak setting daily and with each change in isotope
2. Dose Calibrator (Do Daily Quality Control and Record)
a. Do calibrator repeatability check with 137Cs and 57Co source and check that the reading is within the range as stated by the chart above the dose calibrator.
b. Do channel check with 137Cs source for 99m Tc, 1231, and 67 Ga.andrecord.
c. On a quarterly basis, a linearity test must be performed on the dose calibrator.
d. Activity Tc 100 mCi is obtained for 3 consecutive days. The data is sent to Medical Physics for processing.
3. Handmeter
Does constancy test with 137Cs source for hand meter currently in use? On a yearly basis, hand radiation survey meters should be calibrated.
4. Radiopharmaceutical
a. Check and record radiation levels at the surface and at a 3 feet distance of the daily radiopharmaceutical delivery.
b. If further radiopharmaceutical are needed. Place order by phoning radiopharmaceutical vendor. All doses of 1231 are to be ordered in capsule form only.

III. Administrative
a. On a quarterly basis helps organize the Radiation Safety Committee Meeting
b. Attends workshops and seminars to comply with JCAHO continuing education policy.

IV. Other Duties
a. Help the Radiology Department Manager collect, process, and type all Radiology Quality Assurance Data. Attend all quality Assurance Meetings.
b. Make sure the Crash Cart located in the Radiology Department is properly stocked and in working condition each day.
c. Monitor film badges to be worn by all employees working in the radiation areas. Collect film badges each month and post the results of the film badge readings in the appropriate department.
d. Provide Emergency On-Call during non-regular working hours on a continuous basis.
e. Instruct ancillary personnel in radiation safety procedures.

V. Record Maintenance
a. Maintains records of radioisotope receipts, use, storage, and disposal in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
b. Records and maintains all results of quality assurance tests.
c. Maintains all maintenance and repair records.

VI. Sealed Sources
a. Semiannually, a wipe test of all sealed radioactive sources must be performed to check for radioactive leakage. Wipe test swabs are to be sent to Radiation Detection Company for analysis.
b. On a quarterly basis, the number, type, and activity of all sealedradioactivity sources are to be determined and recorded.

VII. Instrumentation
a. Operates imaging equipment and related accessories (multi-formatting devices) for routine studies.
b. Performs quality control procedures on all instruments including voltage and linearity checks and test of uniformity and resolution to ensure that all equipment is in working order.
c. Records status and results of instrument checks in appropriate log books.
d. Checks operation and calibrates survey and monitoring devices against known standards.
e, Reports equipment failure/malfunction and arranges repair of equipment as soon as possible.
f. Check daily for contamination: areas around the Hot Lab and the Nuclear Medicine department including the hallways.

Qualifications

2. Licensed in the State of California
3. At least one year of full-time experience in clinical nuclear medicine imaging
4. BCLS certification required.

Complies with Chinese Hospital Compliance Handbook including Code of Ethics and all statutes, regulations, guidelines applicable to federal and state programs. Responsibilities include, following the guidelines and reporting suspected violations of any statute, regulations, agreements or guidelines applicable to all healthcare programs.

Base Pay Scale

Starting at $72.30 - $86.87 per hour. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
