Elmhurst Hospital Center (EHC) is the major tertiary care provider in the borough of Queens. Job Description

This class of positions encompasses the performance of technical procedures utilizing radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals or assisting in the performance of diagnostic examinations, including radionuclidic imaging of organs and organ systems of patients, dynamic studies, assays of body fluids and tissues and radioassays. Activities include in vivo and in vitro, and technicians may be called upon to perform parenteral administration of radioactive material by intravenous (IV), intramuscular or subcutaneous methods. All personnel perform related work. There are two (2) assignment levels to differentiate ascending order of assignment scope with the corresponding higher pay levels. All personnel in this title perform related work.

Duties & Responsibilities

Under general supervision, performs nuclear medicine examinations at a highly technical level including special procedures using radionuclides by operating nuclear medical instruments to assist medical staff in diagnosis and treatment of human ailments. Performs other related duties as required.
1. May perform major duties and functions of Assignment Level I; and,
2. Maintains regular contact with physicians and other health care personnel regarding the nature, scheduling or results of procedures performed within the Nuclear Medicine Department.
3. Assists in the development of new tests by performing comparison studies and clinical trials. Implements these new procedures.
4. Assists in the conduct of specialized tests and studies either in vivo or in vitro, or both.
5. Plans, schedules and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the Nuclear Medicine Department to ensure the continuous flow of work.
6. Assists in developing quality control procedures and quality assurance. Instructs other technical personnel on technical aspects of their routine use.
7. Assists in the development of computer applications in Nuclear Medicine.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Graduate from an approved school of Nuclear Medicine Technology or equivalent.
2. Eligibility for Registry of Radiologic Technologists or equivalent registry.

For Assignment Level II
1. Registry of Radiologic Technologist or equivalent registry; and
2. Two (2) years of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
