What You'll Do:
In this position you will be responsible for conducting, coordinating and maintaining the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) continuing education (CE) programs and assuring continued state and national approval. You will also assist your supervisor in planning and/or providing orientation, in-services and continuing education (e.g., Introduction to Public Health Nursing, Continuing Education Nurse Planner Orientation) regarding public health and community nursing practices & issues for ODH staff, local public health nurses and public health nurse supervisors/directors of nursing.
Training and development required to remain in the classification after employment. Biennial renewal of license to practice as registered nurse.
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Travels overnight; exposed to unpredictable patient behavior.
Current & valid license to practice professional nursing as Registered Nurse (i.e., R.N.) in Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code.

Current & valid license to practice professional nursing as Registered Nurse (i.e., R.N.) in Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code; 24 mos. exp. as registered nurse in private community or state facility in assigned area of expertise; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in employee training & development; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in nursing education programs; 3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in public speaking or effective communication.
-Or equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.

- organizes and attends quarterly/monthly meetings
- approves training applications for CE credits
- maintains and submits CE reports to meet state and CE approver requirements
- answers requests for specialized assistance about public health nursing practices and education
- assures the availability, accessibility, and quality of essential services delivered at the state and local level (e.g.,
designs and updates curriculum, plans program, obtains and coordinates speakers, facilitates training sessions) - assists supervisor in determining educational needs (e.g., reviews feedback from meetings with professional nursing organizations, analyzes course evaluations) of local health department nursing staff
- plans the methodology, conducts training, maintains programs resources
- researches and compiles educational resources for use by consultants and local health departments (e.g., health commissioners' conferences, environmental principles course)
- ensures availability of necessary training equipment (e.g., transports and sets up equipment weighing up to 45 pounds)
- evaluates the outcomes of the educational programs

Qualifications
