Responsibilities

Highlands Behavioral Health System is an 86 bed, acute care psychiatric hospital located in Littleton, CO. Highlands features individual units for adolescents, adults, and seniors, and offers inpatient acute care, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs. www.highlandsbhs.com.

The Nursing Educator/Infection Control (IC) is responsible for assisting the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in evaluating, reviewing, designing, and implementing hospital training events with respect to all Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Behavioral Health Technician (RN/LPN/BHT) staff required training. The person will also be responsible for coordinating the activities of the Infection Control Program, assuming direct responsibility for infection surveillance and reporting, and providing technical support and education for the hospital staff. The Nursing Educator/IC is also responsible for nursing staff education and training, and for the employee health compliance program. Also provides, on as-needed basis, patient nursing assessments. Participates in Treatment Team meetings as needed.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate from an accredited program in nursing. Master's Level preferred.

Experience: A minimum of three (3) years direct clinical experience preferred in a psychiatric or mental health setting, with direct experience in staff education, nursing practices, patient assessments, education concepts, practices and procedures.

Licensure: Registered Nurse in state of Colorado. Preferred certification in Infection Prevention/Control (CIC).

Additional Requirements: A thorough knowledge of The Joint Commission, CMA, OSHA regulations, and all other state and federal regulatory standards. Demonstrates an understanding of the principles of epidemiology and infectious disease in the hospital. Successful completion of Verbal De-Escalation and Handle with Care Training, and CPR certification required. Certifications may be obtained during new hire orientation. Must be tested for Tuberculosis with a PPD skin test annually or by a chest x-ray tri-annually. May be required to work weekends, overtime, and have flexible hours.
