About the Nurse Manager Role and Ambulatory Neurology Department

Working in a busy Ambulatory Neurology department with multiple providers, the nurse manager is a highly motivated, innovative, ambitious registered nurse with strong communication skills who will work collaboratively with a dynamic clinical team to ensure competent, compassionate, individualized, nursing care for patients and their families.

Under the general supervision of the Neurology Clinical Director of Advanced Practice Providers and Nursing, the incumbent will serve as Nurse Manager for the Ambulatory Neurology Department.

  • The Nurse Manager will serve as a day to day clinical leader for resource questions and/or scope of practice questions, help precept and orient new nurses, help monitor and ensure competencies, provide clinical nursing coverage as needed, ensure the ambulatory practice standards are up to date (i.e. code cart, medications on site) participate in surveillance rounds, assess needs of the team, participate in projections for nursing projects and new initiatives.
  • The Nurse manager will be responsible for direct clinical oversight of the RN team and indirect clinical oversight of the medical assistant role group including providing clinical education and training.
  • The nurse manager is responsible and accountable for the balance of the clinical triage workload and will identify and assist with coverage as needed. She/he collaborates with the clinical care team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The nurse manager will ensure that care is safe, efficient, effective, timely and meets the cultural, spiritual, and ethnic needs of each patient and family.
  • Finally, the incumbent may also participate in clinical research trials within scope of practice as part of quality improvement for the practice.


Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manages the day-to-day Outpatient Neurology Nursing Team and provides clinical oversight for the MA Team (50% or 20 hours spent per week)
  • Participates in daily operational activities necessary for safe patient/staff environment including policy and procedure implementation as well as neurology clinical patient care initiatives (20% or 8 hours spent per week).
  • Participates in all clinical duties of triage RN to provide coverage within the department and support the balance of clinical work within the patient care pools (30% or 12 hours spent per week)

Education/Degree

  • Master's degree completed or in progress required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required with relevant significant experience; Graduation must be from an accredited nursing program.


Licensure, Certifications, or Registration

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required
