Introduction

Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI), located near Oshkosh Wisconsin, is looking to fill 2 Nurse Manager positions. These positions will typically work Monday - Friday from 6:30am - 3:00pm with occasional weekends and holidays, depending on the needs of the facility. WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

Position Summary

As a Nurse Manager, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Coordinating and supervising all nursing activities as identified in Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 441 (N10 Wis. Adm. Code), ANA Standards of Practice, and Department, Division, Institute, and unit policies in the provision of holistic care for the psychiatric patients on designated patient units.
  • Applying principles of management in supervision of nursing staff assigned to the unit.
  • Assessing learning needs and arranging for continual education or growth and development for nursing staff, patients, and self.
  • Managing and supervising the unit on a 24-hour basis.
  • Responsible for overseeing overall care and treatment delivery including identification of patient care needs, developing and supervising nursing plans of care, identifying patient care delivery challenges and possible solutions in coordination with the unit provider.

Salary Information

The starting pay is between $121,600 and $128,500 per hour (approximately between $58.48 and $61.79 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Nursing Supervisor and is in pay schedule and range 50/11.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility, or medical personnel directed by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
  • Must be licensed or eligible to be licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Wisconsin (WI). Eligible includes being currently registered as a professional nurse in another state and eligible to obtain licensure in WI (must be licensed in WI upon hire).
  • Experience as a lead worker and monitoring the work of other nursing staff.
  • Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Experience working in an inpatient setting.
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
  • Experience working as a direct supervisor to nursing staff.
  • Experience participating in or leading quality improvement activities.
  • Experience working with a psychiatric population in a secured setting.
