In collaboration with the Senior Director and Director, Area Operations MHUC and Urgent Care Site Operations Managers, the Regional Nurse Manager is responsible for the patient care provided by MAs, PCTs, and RTs at MedStar Health Urgent Care facilities located within assigned region. Assists with supervising, interviewing, hiring, evaluations, and termination, if necessary, of clinical staff. Handles clinical associate and patient complaints related to clinical practice. Provides direct patient care as needed. Assists in mentoring clinical staff to provide an efficient patient flow. Implements and maintains clinical policies and procedures in consultation with Providers, Managers, Directors of Operations, or the Senior Director of Nursing. Supervises obtaining and maintaining the necessary inventory of equipment and supplies needed to provide safe and effective patient care. This position documents as appropriate in the medical records. Collaborates with the Professional Development team in education of clinical staff for new and ongoing processes or procedures. Supervises all clinical competencies, licenses and certifications of staff. Maintains environment and patient care consistent with legal and/or regulatory standards. Education
  • Bachelor's degree required and
  • Master's degree preferred
Experience
  • 5-7 years Progressively more responsible job-related nursing and ED or Urgent Care experience. Experience in solving patient and staff problems. required and
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid RN license in the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia required or
  • any combination as required based on work location(s). required and
  • CPR certification required

  • Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality and safety standards. Addresses barriers to achieving goals and objectives. Ensures compliance with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Conducts meetings to include daily huddles, assists site managers with regular staff meetings, training classes for safety, infection control, OSHA, EMR, CPR, TJC, compliance and others as required. Participates in community outreach efforts to assist with increasing patient volumes.
  • Answers patient questions and provides education and materials/referrals as appropriate. Reviews diagnostic test results. Notifies appropriate provider of any critical or abnormal results. Notifies patient of results as requested by provider. Completes proper documentation in electronic medical record.
  • When needed, will provide direct patients care, including, but not limited to: escorting patients to examination room, taking vitals, performing EKG's, phlebotomy, giving injections and assisting providers with procedures as necessary. Ensures the physical well-being of patients.
  • Embraces workflows and needs to ensure clinical staff is properly and thoroughly trained and competent to assist the providers. Documents clinically related activities accurately.
  • Assists clinical staff with intake of patients. Assesses acuity of patient conditions and responds appropriately to the concerns and expedites need to be seen when appropriate. Notifies providers when appropriate. Delivers patient care consistent with policy and with high regard to patients/employee safety and quality of care.
  • Interviews, hires, evaluates performance, promotes, and disciplines staff in collaboration with the appropriate leader.
  • Supports new clinical and service initiatives with a positive attitude; seeks opportunities to improve care and the patient experience.
  • Embraces new technology and use of electronic health record.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Promotes an atmosphere of respect towards patients, families, vendors, employers and co-workers. Acts and communicates professionally at all times.   • Reports statistics, evaluates problems, and proposes solutions for any or all site(s) within assigned region.
  • Resolves clinical conflicts between patients, providers, and staff independently and/or in consultation with the providers.
  • Manages appropriate and timely completion of lab logs and quality control.
  • Assists the clinical team with patient flow and looks for ways to improve same. Works with providers and staff to minimize the patient's wait.
  • Supports own personal development and needs to practice at a high-level of independence.
  • Works to create a cohesive and productive work team. Provides adequate training of new clinical associates and conducts competency reviews for clinical staff as needed. Ensures staff certifications remain current. Maintains continuing education program for staff by giving or arranging for in-services and providing for training opportunities. Regularly distributes and ensures receipt of information regarding new clinical developments, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and business unit in community outreach efforts. Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams and maintains effective working relationships with other departments.
  • Mentors Clinical associates regarding deficits in patient care, laboratory testing, clinical documentation, or failure to follow established standards of care.
  • Is a Champion for creating a HRO culture. Creates an environment where associates will feel safe to speak up regarding actual or potential safety concerns
