Job Description: Seeking Nurse Practitioner to join busy Head and Neck Surgical Oncology team at Broward Health.

Broward Health Physician Group is searching for a Nurse Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary team. Dr. Ryan H. Sobel, MD is a fellowship-trained head & neck oncologic surgery specialist and is the Director of the Head & Neck Oncology program. The practice is based in Fort Lauderdale, FL and has over 16 of experience in the medical field. The clinician will work side-by-side with Dr. Sobel in the clinic and hospital settings, evaluating and caring for patients, and performing diagnostic endoscopies and minor procedures.

Head and neck tumors include benign and malignant conditions of the head and neck, including: throat, mouth, tongue, voice box, tonsils, skin, neck, thyroid, salivary gland, and other areas in the region. Due to the complexity of anatomy and treatments, caring for this patient population is complex, multidisciplinary, and highly rewarding. Care ranges from diagnosis through survivorship including diagnostic work up, treatment, cancer surveillance, and end-of-life situations.

The nurse practitioner will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team to provide comprehensive care to patients in a dual role of outpatient and/or inpatient setting.

Responsibilities include evaluating new and follow-up patients, coordinating complex multidisciplinary care, and performing minor procedures, under the direction and supervision of Dr. Sobel. While operating room participation is not required, willingness to be present is preferred as this will provide optimal perioperative care for our patients.

-Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion and care coordination for patients and families with acute and chronic health needs. The clinician will work with administrative, nursing, physician, and teaching faculty to assure safe, effective, quality patient care and to represent and promote Broward Healths educational, research and patient care missions.

-Provides care within their scope of practice as outlined by applicable state law, licensing, regulations, and institutional policy and practice agreements.

Essential Responsibilities:

The NP will be the clinical coordinator for the Head and Neck Cancer Program which will include clinical acitvities as well as program development, patient outreach, care coordination, patient education, and teaching after sign off by the Program Director, Dr. Sobel. The NP also participates in interdisciplinary and clinical rounds, provides education and support, as well as makes appropriate referrals.

Clinical: Performs history and physical assessments of patients that are accurate, complete, concise, relevant and appropriate for age, gender and clinical problem. Orders appropriate diagnostic studies and correctly interprets results. Develops, implements, evaluates, and alters the plan of care as needed. Maintains accurate, complete, concise and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

Patient Care: Provides compassionate care that is patient and family-centered, with prevention of illness, promotion of quality of life measures, and treatment of disease throughout the lifespan. Facilitates consistent and coordinated care with clear communication among all members of the healthcare team. Considers cost effectiveness and risk/benefit analysis when making decisions about patient care. Uses evidenced-based medicine to systematically analyze and improve patient care practices. Develops, evaluates, and implements standards of care within the specialty to continue the Program's regional growth and renown.

Communication: Communicates and collaborates effectively with physicians, health professionals, and health-related agencies. Collaborates with ancillary staff, nursing, and residents. Communicates with patients and families, providing counseling, education, and coordination of care. Serves as an advocate for patients and their support system in navigating the care process and health care system.

Activities: Participates in weekly head and neck tumor coard conference. Participates in education of residents and other health care professionals. Participates in organizational and departmental meetings, educational opportunities, committees and workgroups as necessary. Participates in quality initiative/performance activities. Promote interdisciplinary practice and implement strategies to overcome barriers to collaboration.

Research: Participates in new and existing research opportunities to advance the care and treatment of patients.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Professional Nursing for APRN

Experience: 3 or more years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in designated specialty preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Must have prescriptive authority within 6 months of hire. IF Nurse Practitioner: Ability to achieve and maintain Active RN and APNP license in State of Florida AND Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by the ANCC and/or the AANP. Nurse Practitioner must be able to obtain the required licensure from the State of Florida for employment. All Nurse Practitioner applicants must have: Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire -AND- CPR certification and Advanced Life Support ACLS certifications if relevant to practice area. Obtain within 90 days of employment in this position. Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required. Must obtain and maintain medical staff credentialing and privileges.
