Job Summary: The Nurse Practitioner provides clinical services and assists physicians within their specific scope of expertise. Makes independent decisions in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Assists and instructs students. Supervises other positions.
Additional Department Summary: The Nurse Practitioner provides clinical services for University Medical Center Resident Clinics. Responsible for independent decision making in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Assists faculty physicians and family medicine resident physicians. In addition to supporting clinical activity, the Nurse Practitioner works to improve efficiency, organization, and patient/clinic flow. Manages day-to-day operations, resolves issues, and contributes to the improvement of quality of care, as well as patient and provider satisfaction.

Responsible for completing required training that is related to laws and regulations that create a more hospitable and respectful workplace and safe work environment. Has personal accountability and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA/CCHS policies and procedures.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Nurse Practitioner Certificate and two (2) years of nursing experience. Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Alabama in good standing.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Completion of a Nurse Practitioner Certification Program. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the area of Family Medicine. Current/valid RN license in the State of Alabama. Two (2) years of broad or specialized professional experience as a nurse practitioner.

Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent clinical, organizational, and administrative skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, faculty, staff and other health care professionals.
