Description

Under the direction of the Medical/Surgical Team Leader delivers quality nursing care to patients from ages newborn to geriatric on an assigned unit. Assures that patient/family needs are met. Provides for open communication within the unit, with patients, families, physicians, other units and departments. Demonstrates knowledge of patient/staff safety measures. Builds and maintains professional relationships. Nurses will be automatically enrolled in a 12-month Nurse Residency Program being offered through a partnership between Delta Health, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence. This transition-to-practice program is considered to be a residency apprenticeship, primarily focused on supporting the new graduate nurse's transition from educational to clinical setting. It is our goal to offer a blended continuing education curriculum, through University of Iowa and the Colorado Center, as well as trained mentors/preceptors as support staff. Our goal is to promote leadership development and enhance critical thinking skills, to enable new nurses to build upon their academic and clinical foundation, in a safe and encouraging environment.

  • Carries out patient care according to hospital polices and procedures functioning within the limitations of the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Recognizes patient problems/complications and intervenes appropriately.
  • Accountable for the safe administration of medications.
  • Participates in the development of and adherence to written nursing care standards for the unit.
  • Assess patient need for discharge planning on admission
  • Plans and coordinates work flow to ensure completion of assigned duties in a timely manner.
  • Assures that patient/family needs are met.
  • Reports significant changes in patient condition/response to treatment to supervisor/physician promptly.
  • Participates in hand off shift report


Requirements

  • Must have graduated from nursing school and pass the Nursing Board with a license to practice as an RN in the State of Colorado within 90 days.
  • One year relevant experience preferred.
  • Specialty certification for specialty areas preferred.
  • ACLS and PALS required within 6 months.
  • BLS required.
