UPMC Hamot is hiring a Nursing Assistant to join the Float Pool!

This position is Full-Time with rotating shifts, holidays and weekends required.

4, 8, or 12 hour shifts available!

Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides direct patient care, including bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, and ambulating patients.
  • Maintains a safe and organized environment, completing safety checks, cleaning equipment, changing linens, and clearing hallways.
  • Acquires and distributes supplies and equipment to support patient care, including ordering, charging/crediting, and stocking supplies.
  • Delivers patient nourishments, fills water pitchers, and distributes patient mail.
  • Performs core nursing assistant responsibilities: blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, and Foley care.
  • Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status.
  • May apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints per protocol.
  • Receives and acts on feedback, identifies learning needs, and participates in self-review.
  • Communicates effectively with the healthcare team and demonstrates cultural competence.
  • Supports safety in the workplace and maintains productive relationships with patients and colleagues.
  • Suggests and supports departmental changes, assuming responsibility for assignments.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions and establishes effective communication strategies.
  • Contributes to unit activities, responds to call lights, passes meal trays, and transports patients.
  • Provides diversional activities to reduce restraint use and documents care in the medical record.
  • Completes clerical functions, complies with safety policies, and adheres to all patient care protocols.
  • Responds to emergent situations within the scope of the nursing assistant role.
  • Provides companionship and supervision for patients as required.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program.
  • Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
  • Access to medications is limited to the distribution of medication to the nurse.
    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
