Under the direction of the Assistant Deputy Director of the Care Coordination Division and with additional support from the Assistant Medical Director in the Clinical Operations division, the Nursing Consultant, Program Review , is responsible for overseeing Care Coordination efforts and providing consultation and direct supervision to Nurse Practitioners in the planning, evaluation, and placement recommendation of patients during the preadmission process and in support of specific escalated instances within facilities of the Department of State Hospitals (DSH). In collaboration with the Senior Psychologist Supervisor and Patient Management Unit Branch Chief, leads the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to patient referral processing/intake, appropriate patient placement, the oversight of medical and psychiatric care and related barriers that impact patient movement, substantive treatment options, and participates in broader Departmental efforts in clinical best practices and appropriate preadmission pathway utilization.

Working Conditions
  • This position may be required to report to the Sacramento Allenby building two days per week as directed by their supervisor however, an exemption may be considered. A majority of the essential functions of this position may be performed via telework, hybrid and/or flexible scheduling in accordance with DSH PD 5338. Although the ability may be granted, incumbent must be available to report to in-person mandated trainings and essential meetings. Up to 5% statewide travel may be required. All commute expenses to the Sacramento location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate. Travel throughout California site visits, including overnight travel, to DSH partnered treatment facilities will be required with prior notice.
  • DSH-Sacramento is located at a new 11 floor high rise building.
  • This position does not qualify for Safety Pay.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • Possession of NP license and 3 years' experience working as a Nurse Practitioner Experience with forensic patient populations 2 years of experience supervising licensed nursing staff or multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external partners and direct the delivery of outstanding customer service.
