Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Crime Victim Services Division of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an Investigator that provides legal advice, counsel, and assistance; examines detailed records and renders comprehensive investigative reports and legal opinions; prepares legal documentation; represents the State's interest in civil and criminal matters; and assists in drafting bills and amendments for legislative consideration. May train others.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts advanced criminal investigations and examinations of alleged fraud and abuse, including violations of state and federal laws, and rules and regulations on service providers and/or individuals who apply to the Crime Victims' Compensation program; maintains confidentiality of all case related matters.
  • Plans criminal investigations, including contacting and interviewing defendants and witnesses on allegations of fraud and abuse
  • Reviews, examines and analyzes computer data from various sources, including business records, financial records, investigative reports and medical records; collects evidence and conducts detailed program reviews to identify issues associated with Crime Victims' Compensation fraud and/or abuse
  • Prepares detailed investigative reports on cases with the potential for criminal and/or legal action
  • Testifies in court and at administrative hearings as required
  • Trains and mentors' investigators and other employees, including conducting in-service training to providers and the community; establishes and maintains working relationships with appropriate law enforcement agencies and district/county attorneys
  • Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy
  • Complies with all applicable security and safety rules, regulations and standards
  • Performs related work as assigned
  • Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions
  • Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule
  • Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity




Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Investigator II:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; experience in the following (or closely related) fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis: full-time investigations, law enforcement, auditing, accounting, compliance monitoring, Medicaid, Medicare, health care insurance
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication, including writing reports
  • Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making
  • Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)
  • Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
  • Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA
  • Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
  • Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%
  • Investigator III: All of the above qualifications for an Investigator II, PLUS:
  • Experience: One year of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: full-time investigations, law enforcement, auditing, accounting, compliance monitoring, Medicaid, Medicare, health care insurance


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Other Language: Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak Spanish
