Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Office of the Attorney General, a dynamic state agency with over 4000 employees throughout the State of Texas, offers highly competitive one-year paid fellowships and is seeking a qualified individual for the Special Litigation Unit.

The Special Litigation Unit is the division within the Office of the Attorney General tasked with litigating certain constitutional and politically sensitive cases. Among other things, the division handles matters relating to the First Amendment, abortion, redistricting, elections, and immigration. It represents State clients, including the Governor, Secretary of State, and state legislators, and provides legal counsel to the agency's executive administration on significant, multi-divisional litigation matters.

The fellowship is a demanding, one-year position designed for recent law graduates seeking advanced trial experience. Many fellows arrive after having completed a judicial clerkship or obtain one for the following term. They assist the division with legal responsibilities, including appearing in court, writing briefs, taking depositions, conducting written discovery, and interacting with clients and opposing counsel.
