The Laboratory Technician collects and processes clinical blood, non-blood specimens, and drug screens; dispenses collection instructions to patients; performs waived and moderate complexity laboratory tests; maintains laboratory documentation, supplies, equipment, and safety; utilizes computer systems for data storage and retrieval. Has working knowledge of ICD10 coding and Medicare compliance regulations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Will participate and maintain a culture within The Corvallis Clinic consistent with the content outlined in the Service and Behavioral Standards Caregiver Handbook. To this end, employee will be expected to read, have familiarity, and embrace the principles contained within
  • Knowledge of federal regulations as related to drug and alcohol testing collection procedures
  • Order and distribute kits and maintain chain of custody needed for specimen collection
  • Perform venipuncture and specimen processing
  • Perform "point of collection" tests as directed by DHHS as requested by CLIA
  • Collect and process clinical blood, non-blood specimens and drug screens. Dispense collection instructions to patients
  • Perform moderate complexity laboratory testing
  • Will receive DATIA certificate within 1 year of employment
  • Follow procedures, policies, and Medicare compliance regulations
  • Ability to work flexible hours and assist in off-site collections
  • Maintain work area including records, supplies equipmentequipment QA logs and safety
  • Utilize computer systems for data storage and retrieval
  • Participates in competency and proficiency testing, and in-house continuing education
  • Collect specimens in off-site locations
  • Carry the on-call Pager
  • Administer vaccinations
  • Reviews new employee medical records for appropriate vaccinations
  • Performs Breath Alcohol Testing
  • Ability to perform EKG's and PFT's as needed
  • Ability to travel to multiple clinic locations

Required Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Phlebotomist or equivalent (ASCP, NPA or ASCLS)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ successful years of phlebotomy experience
  • 1+ years of clinical laboratory testing experience

Knowledge and skills:

  • A working knowledge of ICD10 coding, Medicare Compliance regulations
  • Ability to work compatibly with physicians, patients, and other staff

Physical Demand:

  • Physical guidelines include ability to use a computer, stand/sit for up to twelve hours/day, bend, stoop, twist, assist patients in turning, assist patients in arising from seats in waiting areas, push wheelchair patients, assist patients in arising from and returning to wheelchair or exam table; turn a minimum of 50 pounds unaided and over 100 pounds with assistance

Work Environment:

  • Exposed to patient and environmental conditions, and some unpleasant sights, smells and contagious diseases
