GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) work under the supervision of Occupational Therapists and assist them to collaborate with residents and enable the residents' abilities to lead a comfortable and normal daily life. The COTA provides unique therapeutic services to enhance the goals and objectives of eligible residents. The COTA is primarily responsible for implementing the therapeutic program prescribed by the occupational therapist.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Promote independence in activities of daily living (including dressing and feeding) through problem solving, suggesting adaptations and observation of the resident.

• Observe, problem solve and suggest positioning techniques to enhance participation and maximize function.

• Utilize task analysis to suggest techniques to the nursing team regarding feeding, activities of daily living, and other skills needed.

• Collaborate with colleagues in order to share information and expertise to plan and implement effective treatments.

• Assist occupational therapist in determining extent to which goals and objectives are being met by collecting and maintaining data.

MINOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Uses professional judgment to ensure safety of self, residents, and others at all times.

• Effectively communicates with therapists concerning residents' response to treatment plan.

• Provides timely written documentation as required by insurance provider to meet licensing, certification, regulatory, reimbursement requirements and physician treatment plan.

• Reports any changes in resident status or needs to supervising therapist on a timely basis.

• Attends meetings as requested.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Completion of an accredited Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant program.

• Current State Occupational Therapist Assistant License.

• CPR certification for Health Care Providers.

• At least one (1) year in long-term care facility preferred.

• Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

• Ability to take care of clients with different personalities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Lifting twenty-five (25) pounds or more frequently.
