Purpose of Position
Evaluates and administers selected activities to achieve maximum physical and mental functioning for each patient when prescribed by a referring physician. The therapist will assess, test, treat and evaluate infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients, recognizing age specific differences, and variations in methods used in patient assessment, care and support required for these different age groups. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in helping to restore function and in preventing disability

Description
  1. Must be courteous to patients, visitors and employees.
  2. Administers diagnostic testing procedures to determine the extent of patient's impairment and the prognosis for improvement. Identifies pertinent patient problems.
  3. Sets objective, measurable treatment goals incorporating patient's goal for functional outcome. Establishes a treatment plan based on patient needs and patient family input.
  4. Performs treatment procedures and fabricates adaptive equipment/splints and adapts therapy techniques to meet the needs of patients unable to comprehend verbal commands or voluntarily carry out a regime of therapeutic exercises. Reevaluates patients, modifies treatment plan and procedures based on patient progress.
  5. Provides objective, analytic documentation of patient care, patient/family education and information regarding units of service. Communicates effectively with medical/allied health personnel regarding patient progress, needs, and discharge planning.
  6. Maintains Occupational Therapy equipment and inventory of supplies. Completes purchase orders.
  7. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment program, quality improvement initiatives, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  8. Trains new personnel as required, assists the Manager with on the job training.
  9. Provides guidance and direction to COTAs aides and affiliating students.
  10. Enhances professional growth and development through approved participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  11. Participates in appropriate in-service educational programs.
  12. Attends meetings as required.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Graduate of an AOTA accredited Occupational Therapy program with a Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • One to two years experience preferred.
  • Adheres to the Professional Code of Ethics of the AOTA.
  • Maintains current CPR certification.
  • Demonstrates current clinical competency.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.

MATHEMATICAL and COMPUTER SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Basic computer skills.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Schedule Details:
32PP (16 hrs per week), Rot. Days, 7a-3p, 7:30a-3:30p, 8a-4p, 8:30a-4:30p, 9a-5p, 9:30a-5:30p, No weekends, No holidays. *Sign On Bonus Eligible*
