Position Summary:
To facilitate the activities of Surgical Services through the effective performance of receptionist, transcriptionist, and clerical processes. The position manages information and connects physicians, staff, and visitors with appropriate resources.

  • Work may occasionally require travel to other Carle Health facilities/hospitals.
  • Required to drive your own vehicle for business purposes.


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser.
Multicultural sensitivity.
Critical thinking skills using independent judgement in making decisions.

Essential Functions:
Obtains and/or transcribes medical orders accurately and implements these orders via computer to the appropriate department.
  • Obtain and transcription of medical orders
  • Timely transcription and preparation of all patient charts
  • Accurate preparation of charts.
  • Accurate assembly of physician specific orders.
  • Understanding of computer downtime procedures
  • Legible transcription of orders & diagnostic test results.
  • Understanding of test priorities and refers appropriately.
  • Able to process and initiate high volume of orders quickly and accurately
  • Resource to the computer
  • Flags telephone/verbal orders and pending needs.
May perform as the receptionist for the unit promoting positive relationships with those interacting with Surgical Services.
  • Greets visitors, physicians, patients, and staff in friendly receptive manner.
  • Promptly and courteously acknowledges individuals at the desk.
  • Offers assistance when needed.
  • Answers calls promptly and relays requests to the appropriate staff.
  • Answers telephone in a timely manner.
  • Displays warmth, concern, and respect for patients and families.
  • Establishes positive working relationships with other hospital personnel.
  • Knowledgeable and respectful of the roles other ancillary department personnel have in delivering patient care.
  • Recognizes need to facilitate ancillary department's care of the patient.
