Responsibilities:
  • Verify patient information and records in both the medical record system and computerized scheduling system.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and reschedule patient appointments, and relay necessary messages to staff and providers.
  • Greet and register patients in a courteous, prompt manner, providing instructions and directing them as needed, and perform check-in and check-out functions.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly waiting area, including the beverage station and reading materials.
  • Prepare patient charts in advance of upcoming appointments to ensure readiness.
  • Answer and screen telephone calls, take messages, provide information, and address questions about appointments and testing.
  • Update physician schedules regularly, ensuring accurate patient scheduling and appointment confirmations.
  • Complete required paperwork, including encounter forms and referrals, and use the computer system to support billing processes.
  • Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures, maintaining strict confidentiality of medical records and data.
  • Utilize financial management system modules for scheduling, information verification, charge entry, co-payment collection, and other related tasks.


Qualifications:

Required:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1 year work experience, preferably in a medical office setting

Preferred:
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Word processing and computer experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34
