Job Summary

This position is responsible for managing the operations of the assignments area and front desk of the Office of residential life which is the artery of the university housing services department.

They will supervise the Office of Residential Life front desk including hiring, training, and scheduling front desk staff.
This position will learn areas within the department to help answer students' and parents' questions about residence hall living, residence hall contracts, policies/procedures, etc.

In addition, this position is responsible for managing administrative duties for the assistant director of assignments and the assignments supervisor. Including support/secretarial and accurate record-keeping functions such as screening incoming calls, visitors, and mail, composing reports and memos, creating, and maintaining electronic and paper files, scheduling and maintaining event calendars, tracking appeals and project/communication timelines, and assisting with processing student and staff request.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$19.06 - $19.71 per hour

Required Qualifications

1. High school graduation or equivalent.
2. Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience comparable to the third level of this series. This includes work such as performing a wide variety of office support tasks, which require the use of judgment and initiative and the ability to operate computer systems, using word processing, database and software packages. Knowledge of the organization, programs, practices and procedures of the unit is central to the performance of the duties.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Detail oriented, proficient in data entry, word processing, filing systems, calculator use, multi-function photocopier, telephone, facsimile machine, Windows-based programs (preferably accounting, word processing, and spreadsheet programs).
2. Outstanding communication and customer service skills are required. Ability to compose letters, memos and other general business correspondence also required.
3. Ability to maintain and organize accurate records
4. Ability to meet deadlines while working under pressure and be flexible with job priorities.
5. Must be able to work independently as well as a part of a team.
6. Ability to prioritize numerous projects with a variety of constituents and timelines.
7. Experience with hiring, supervising, scheduling, and training student staff.

Work Hours

8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime including weekends and evenings, usually around move-in or other large events.

Functional Expectations

1. Effectively communicate.
2. Remain at a workstation for extended periods.
3. Move about in various locations across campus as needed to complete day-to-day work.
